Re: Job Posting

Many thanx for your response. Maybe you're right, but we have to try. What HPS

can do is to communicate the need for professional standards to our regulators

and legislators.

The example of physicians is overused, so I'll try another one. Consider

teachers. With the exception of some temporary exemptions to meet critical

needs, teachers must have a state certificate. I grew up in NJ, and heard the

example that Albert Einstein would NOT have been qualified to teach physics in a

NJ high school.

Has HPS even tried to establish standards for hp's? I'm not being facetious.

If there are efforts underway, I'd be grateful if someone could enlighten me.

It seems that all you need to be a university or hospital RSO is a 40 hour

course. Apparently even this minimal standard is not always followed, since the

NRC recently cited a hospital which put an individual's name on its license as

the RSO without even informing him! When I mentioned this on Radsafe, a

physician responded that this is no big deal, since the RSO isn't important.

As part of the "perception is reality crowd" (I wish I were part of a crowd; it

seems pretty lonely to me.), I maintain that as long as HPS allows this to go on

without at least trying to correct the situation, they might as well pack up, go

home, and start looking for a real job.

The opinions expressed are strictly mine.

It's not about dose, it's about trust.

Curies forever.
