Scope of Work

EH&S Health Physicist



Introduction

This contract position will support Environmental Health & Safety technical

programs and activities with specific emphasis in radiation safety programs.



Scope

The contract Health Physicist will perform the following duties

·	Performs monthly surveys for radioactive contamination in laboratories.

·	Performs radioactive package receipt, inventory, surveys, and delivery.

·	Assists in conducting periodic reviews of labs to provide feedback on

compliance issues.

·	Assists radiation safety staff in remediation of radioactive material

spills.

·	Assists in investigating safety inquiries, complaints and compliance

problems.

·	Prepares transfer shipments of radioactive materials.

·	Participates in work group safety activities, meetings, discussions, etc.

·	Performs radioactive waste activities as needed, including:

·	Collection and segregation of radioactive waste.

·	Inputs computer data for radioactive waste inventory.

·	Performs liquid radioactive waste sampling and analysis

·	Performs dry radioactive waste surveys.

·	Inventories and controls radioactive waste for decay.

·	Prepares and packages radioactive waste for shipment.

·	Inspects radioactive waste collection and storage areas.

·	Purchases radioactive waste supplies based on established standards and

level



·	Performs radiation safety programs administrative functions as needed,

including:

·	Coordination of external dosimetry exchanges with staff.

·	Updates radiation survey instrument calibration database.

·	Inputs computer data into radiation safety program databases.

·	Files radiation safety programs records.

·	Schedules radiation safety training classes.





General Background

This position is an ongoing responsibility of the EH&S department to fulfill

requirements of Company’s Radioactive Material License #3768-56 granted by

the State of California, Department of Health Services.



All work performed by the contract radiation Health Physicist will be

performed in compliance with Company’s Radioactive Materials License, Title

17 of the California Code of Regulations, and Title 10 of Federal Code of

Regulations.



Technical Requirements

Minimum Requirements of Candidate

•	College diploma or equivalent

•	Two years hands on experience as a health physicist or similar experience

(e.g. radiation safety technician, etc.)

•	General knowledge and experience using Macintosh computer applications:

FileMaker Pro, MS Word, PageMaker, Excel

•	Demonstrated verbal and written communications skills

•	Proficient problem solving skills

•	Valid CA drivers license



Preferred Experience

·	College degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, Industrial

Hygiene, Health Physics or related field

·	24-Hour Hazardous Waste Technician Certification

·	Fork lift operation



Physical Requirements

·	Standing, walking, 50 percent or more of the time worked.

·	Ability to lift 50 lb.

·	Ability to wear personal respirator



Experience:

This position requires two years of related safety experience as an EH&S

technician; experience as a radiation safety technician is preferred.



Necessary Skills:

The candidate must have good verbal and written communications skills as

well as problem solving skills. General knowledge and experience using

computer applications (FileMaker Pro, MS Word, Excel) is required.  Data

entry is compliance driven, so accuracy is critical. The individual must

possess a valid CA drivers license and must be able to wear a personal

respirator. 24-hour Hazardous Waste Technician Certification is preferred.

The ability to operate a forklift is preferred.





Job Responsibilities:

This position will support radiation safety  programs.  Job responsibilities

will include the following:  Performing radioactive package receipt surveys,

monthly surveys for radioactive contamination in laboratories, contamination

surveys of equipment and facilities for release to unrestricted use as

necessary, radioactive waste activities, external dosimetry exchange and

radiation safety administrative functions.  Providing documentation related

to activities performed





Deliverables

All tasks shall be completed and delivered to be reviewed by Company’s

Radiation Safety Officer by the frequency designated on the attached

spreadsheet.  Additional time lines may be established by Company’s

Radiation Safety Officer as needed to complete tasks.



Schedule

The contract position should be available to work during Company’s normal

business hours (8:30-5:30).



Special Considerations

Company will provide an office cubical and necessary equipment to perform

tasks.
