Job Opportunity in San Diego, CA: Assistant Health Physicist



JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: ASSISTANT HEALTH PHYSICIST ($50,794-$61,734)

The Environmental Health Department for the County of San Diego has an

exciting opportunity for a first level health physicist professional.  This

position will be responsible for the inspection and surveying of X-ray

facilities and equipment.



Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

	*	Conducting on-site inspections of private and public

facilities authorized to use various types of radiation producing

equipment/machines located throughout the county; Conducting routine

investigations; Surveying the use of radiological equipment

	*	Determining compliance with rules and regulations governing

radiation use

	*	Conducting basic hazardous waste inspections associated with

radiological equipment

	*	Preparing and issuing correction notices when violations

exist; Conducting follow up inspections to ensure correction of deficiencies

	*	Instructing and advising physicians and operators in

radiation safety and radiology technology; Ascertaining that all radiologic

technologist and other users of X-ray equipment are certified; Investigating

accidental exposure incidents, overexposures and complaints

	*	Writing reports and performing related inspections of X-ray

facilities as needed.



Qualifications:

	*	Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

in radiologic health, radiologic science, health physics, engineering,

mathematics, physical science, life science or a closely related field AND

two years of professional experience in health physics or a closely related

field; OR

	*	Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) certificate issued

by the California State Department of Health Services; or ARRT certificate

from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist; or MQSA certificate

of mammography inspection issued by the Federal Food and Drug Administration

AND five years of experience in a medical radiology department, hospital,

public health or county contract agency operating or surveying the use of

radiological equipment, providing advice on safe practices in radiation and

compliance with rules and regulations governing radiation use; OR

	*	One year of experience in California state service

performing the duties of a Junior Health Physicist.
