Re "Rokke World tour" and similar topics

Our local paper and several other media outlets report the following astonishing statistics:

34% of Americans think we have found WMD in Iraq

22% think Iraq actually used those weapons against the U.S.

A similar fraction thinks that one or more of the 9/11 hijackers was Iraqi

All this in spite of considerable media coverage to the contrary.

So what releavance does this have to RADSAFE? It is an example of the fact that a goodly number of people believe what they want to believe,in spite of overwhelming information to the contrary. In the case of the Iraq war, the poll results cited above show primarily that those people want the war in Iraq to have been justified. In the case of radiophobia: it is a convenient scapegoat for various ailments and stress, and being radiophobic doesn't seem to hurt anyone.

So at least with people who are irrationally radiophobic, all the explanation in the world, and all the empathy or sympathy or whatever with their groundless fear, is not going to change their opinions.

Just a thought.
