The general description of the position follows: With extensive latitude
for the use of initiative and independent judgment serves as emergency
planner and the South Texas Project Team Leader. Under the direction of and
in coordination with the Deputy Director, Emergency Response and
Investigation, develops or reviews and updates as necessary, procedures
relating to emergency response to radiological accidents. Develops technical
documents and methods for improved emergency management. Reviews and
prepares written comments and/or evaluation of other-agency plans,
procedures and related documents. Identifies radiological instrumentation,
supplies, and equipment necessary for emergency response and personnel
protection. Writes specifications and prepares other paperwork necessary for
purchase. Plans, assigns, and coordinates the work of other Project
Planners. Develops appropriate emergency response team training. Conducts
emergency response drills and exercises for response team members. May
represent the Texas Department of Health, Bureau of Radiation Control in the
resolution of emergency response planning and response issues raised by or
otherwise affecting other federal, state or local government agencies or
public utility industries. Evaluates statistical and radiological data;
interprets results; and prepares highly advanced technical reports of
findings. Performs other duties as assigned. Participates as a member of the
Bureau's Emergency Response Team.
