RE: Conversion of Half-life Years to Seconds

I don't think this is a wrong or silly question to ask either. I just wish

the nuclear data people would make it clear by avoiding the use of "years"

altogether. The trouble is, you frequently get the half-life listed in

years, days and seconds, but there's still the suspicion that the original

data might have been reported in years (using one conversion factor), but

then reconverted back, by the data compiler, to days or seconds using

another. It may only be a relative error of about 0.25/365, but it's still

disappointing this can't be cleared up when reporting fundamental physical

data.

I remember that Lederer and Shirley (7 edn) had sidereal year (365.25636

days) in the constants appendix, the implication (and it's only an

implication) being that was the definition of the year to use.

I am not sure if this correction is necessary because of my non-native

English, but to me

" now that you know you have asked the wrong question, ..."

in the context of the message exchange on this thread means the same like

" now that you've been told you have asked the wrong question, ..." .
