Re: 'Dirty Bomb' Was Major New Year's Worry
Valid comments.
By "First Responders" I mean those who first come to
the scene of the accident, such as the fire department
personnel. A lot of units are getting (DOE surplus
equipment) or buying meters (because they have bucks).
I know one local group have alpha meters in case of a
"nuclear weapon."
The comment about "level of experts" goes to the heart
of my question. What are people being trained for? I
would assume "first responsers" will be engaged in
stopping the accident, e.g., fire, flooding, etc., and
rescuing the injured.
The article that started this thread concerned experts
going around major cities looking for radiological
weapons. It was unclear to me who these "experts"
were. Part of the NEST teams? State or city
radiologial control personnel? Local police?
I would also ask what was the purpose of the article?
To make the public feel confident that the government
was doing something useful?
