RE: Senator Reid and Yucca Mountain Hazards
Good point, but it's not just silica. According to the International
Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), fibrous erionite (CAS No.
66733-21-9), a zeolite-family mineral exposing the intermountain west
public, has been detected in samples of road dust in Nevada. Erionite
was first listed by the IARC in its Seventh Annual Report on Carcinogens
as a Group 1 known human carcinogen (e.g., plural mesothelioma).
