RE: An HP Position is Open in Texas [License Reviewer, IndustrialLicens ing Program]

That could be the case Russ. The pay offered is roughly 60% of what I currently pull down and I am an ALARA Coordinator. If I work any Overtime at all, the number falls to about 35-40% of what my position pays. I know this may not seem like a Radsafe issue, but in my opinion it is. There appears to be a huge curve in the pay for very similar work in our field. With a B.S. you can pull down almost the same money as an M.S. and in some cases a P.H.D. I don't think this is in keeping with the remuneration matching the qualifications. People with higher degrees than mine obviously have worked harder and longer to augment their qualifications and deserve more money. And as for the responsibilities required of some very low paying positions, I just can't make the numbers jive. I realize I am very fortunate to do what I do and get paid relatively well for it, but at the same time I can't help but marvel at those who have twice the responsibility and make half the money. Your level of

dedication (meaning the affore mentioned underpaid professionals) is admirable. If they cut my salary in half I am positive my time in this position would end in a matter of seconds.

Thanx for listening to me ramble.

Floyd W. Flanigan B.S.Nuc.H.P.

Wow. I had thought at one time to relocate to Austin, just because I like the culture there. But this salary seems unusually low. I know that pay is also commensurate with area cost of living, but the Austin area is getting expensive. The lower range of this offered salary is what I make now, but the COL where I am is relatively low, so then the salaries are also less (Median annual income here is just under $18k according to the 2000 census. No, not a typo.). Perhaps this may be related to lower state appropriated funding for this position?
