RE: An HP Position is Open in Texas [License Reviewer, IndustrialLicens ing Program]

Well folks, I'm going on vacation for the next 2 weeks here in a moment but I have to ad one more quip. I think my head is going to start swelling. Do you mean to say that, although I only hold a BS, I get paid so much due to performance? Well ... Being the ALARA Coordinator means I'm responsible for ALL site dose here ... And we are currently at 1.227 Rem total site exposure for the year to date (2 unit PWR 700 or so workers). They tell me we are the ALARA leaders or at least one of the top few. So ... since it's my program, and I have complete responsibility for the department ... they pay me accordingly? Heck ... I'll take that as a compliment. I was a deconner for Hydro Nuclear Services 20 years ago for $4.50/hr. There are days I hate the stress but I have to admit I really do like what I do. And ... yes ... I get paid pretty well. As for the rest of my previous comments on professionals with higher degrees, I stand my ground. I have a great respect for those who choose !

 to!

continue along the academic path to a higher level. And I have a great respect also for those who have come up through the ranks with no degree at all. One has as much nobility as the other in many cases. The comment about low paying jobs held by professionals with MS/PhD was meant as a positive comment on their level of dedication to their chosen profession. I salute you all.

Have a great weekend.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with Floyd, but I want to comment on the word "deserve"

and a couple of other things. Knowing that a person has a PhD or MS or BS really tells

you very little about that person. For proof, just peruse the Radsafe archives. Some of

the more stupid and prejudiced comments on this forum come from people with

academic credentials higher than a BS.

Now, completely apart from an individual's qualifications, nobody deserves money just

because they spent more time in school. Salary ought to be commensurate with

performance, rather than what one deserves academically. But the reality is neither of

these. The reality is that big salaries are taken, not earned, by those willing to push and

shove till they get to the front of the line. Once there, they usually hire someone else to

do the work while they look after their salary.

Ok, so I'm ranting. Its only because a single photon struck my brian and induced a

cancerous train of thought.
