RE: Dose Rate in Bragin, Belarus

Thank you, all who responded to my e-mail request.

Last week I sent out the following question:

I received the following question indirectly from an associate.

"Where we were (Bregin - 5.5 miles from Chernobyl right across the river)

the radiation level is 68 quire points versus 12 quire points a normal

amount of radiation. The question that I have is this how long could we be

in that intensity without suffering long-term physical harm. I would like to

go back again. "

Still not quite sure whether it is Bregin, Bragin, Brahin are.

Since then I have received around a dozen replies. From those replies I am

guessing that the "68 quire points" really refers to 68 micro Roentgen per

hour. This is based upon information from people who have been in the

Chernobyl area and done radiation surveys there. My biggest hesitation was

knowing what units were used in local radiation measurements. One of you

sent me a photo from that web site with the motorcycle gal. It showed a

photo of a instrument that had a figure of 81.6 MK P/y - looking in an

online English - Russian dictionary I guess that meant micro (MN'KPO)

Roentgen (PEHTT'EH) per hour (YAC) (letters followed by a ' are improper

translations from Cyllric).

Also, some questioned whether we were being scammed. I suspect not. The

person who sent me the question is know by several people here and is a

ex-secretary from here (big nuke company) and was there on a humanitarian

mission from Operation Carelift 2004. In a latter e-mail (to another friend

here) she wrote: "...we were only on the Belarussian side of the river. Our

ministry took us to the Gomel Region (14-20 miles from). The Bragin and

Komarin area is known as the area of "The Lost People". The Chernobyl plant

is 4 miles down river in Ukraine. Until we asked and received permission we

were the first to ever go in to visit the people themselves. No one was

willing to go there for the past 18 years and the town Mayor greeted us like

royalty before we began our ministry with the children.. The only outsiders

have been scientist. "

>From my friends, she is in her 70's and wants to go back.

Again, thank you all.
