EPA COMPLIANCE

I spoke to Jim Cherniack at EPA re
EPA analysis for Compliance with
Clean Air Act---report due 3/31/94.
He tells me that EPA recognizes that
the use of the word "nuclide" is
recognized by EPA to have caused
some confusion. He states that EPA
allows the substitution of "labeled
compound" here. For example, we
don't need to worry about boiling
point of tritium, as opposed to
thymidine. Therefore, all tritium
doesn't need to be considered a gas
for the analysis. He stated that
EPA wants to be "reasnable" in this
regard and recognizes that use of
"nuclide" would cause needless
problems for licensees. He stated
further that he is considering a
statement in the HP Newsletter to
clarify as he has received numerous
calls.
