EPA COMPLIANCE

I spoke to Jim Cherniack at EPA re
EPA analysis for Compliance with 
Clean Air Act---report due 3/31/94.
He tells me that EPA recognizes that 
the use of the word "nuclide" is 
recognized by EPA to have caused 
some confusion.  He states that EPA
allows the substitution of "labeled 
compound" here.  For example, we 
don't need to worry about boiling 
point of tritium, as opposed to 
thymidine.  Therefore, all tritium 
doesn't need to be considered a gas 
for the analysis.  He stated that 
EPA wants to be "reasnable" in this 
regard and recognizes that use of 
"nuclide" would cause needless 
problems for licensees.  He stated 
further that he is considering a 
statement in the HP Newsletter to 
clarify as he has received numerous 
calls.
