POSITION NOTICE
DIVISION OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY
UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN
POSITION: Assistant Director, Environmental Health and Safety
Radiation Safety Section
This is a full-time academic professional position with an anticipated
starting date as soon as possible following the closing date. Salary
commensurate with qualifications plus a comprehensive benefits
package.
REPORTS TO: Director, Division of Environmental Health and Safety
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This Assistant Director position will direct a broad-based Radiation
Safety program and advise the campus on issues. This position is
responsible for the continuing development and management of a
broad-based radiation safety program that complies with current
federal, state and local regulations; is forward looking; is supportive
of the campus research effort; and is capable of responding promptly
to changes in research programs and the regulatory arena. Duties of
the position include: 1) Providing administrative direction and
guidance for all personnel, facilities and functions of the Radiation
Safety Section; 2) Developing, prioritizing and implementing a
radiation safety program for the campus; 3) Responsible for the
supervision of the Radiation Safety Section personnel who will assist
the individual in this position with development of radiation safety
programs, policies, codes, and work procedures necessary to protect
the safety and health of students, staff, public and the environment;
and 4) Assessing the budgetary need of the radiation safety
programs, prioritizing those needs, and oversight of the expenditures
of the program. In addition, other duties will be assigned related to
radiation saety and the mission of the Division of Environmental
Health and Safety.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in Health Physics or equivalent in relevant field of science and
2 years relevant experience; or M.S. in Health Physics or a relevant
field of science and 5 years relevant experience; or B.S. in Health
Physics or relevant field of science and 8 years relevant experience.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to work
effective as a member of a health and safety team required.
