Re[2]: rad outreach programs
The Cutie Pie was standard Star Trek prop. It was used in
several episodes as a scanner for various reasons. A very
good 50/60ish B movie is either "Dr. Cyclops" or "The Island
of Dr. Cyclops". It involves a mad scientist experimenting
on animals with a device he built which concentrates the
radioactive power of a pit of nearly pure Uranium. Seems
the way he uses it shrinks living tissue. Of course our
heroes who get stranded on his island are subjected to the
ray. One memorable scene shows two of the characters next
to a radiation detector which consisted of two foil strips
in a glass bulb. One character pulls out a baseball size
chunk of rock from his pocket. When he puts it next to the
detector the foil strips fly straight out. He tells his
partner that they will be rich because the rock is almost
pure Uranium. Bad flick but should give anyone in the field
a chuckle.
