Following is a description of a job opening at UCLA:
Position: Environment, Health & Safety Specialist III
Department: Radiation Safety/Facilities Management
Duties to be performed on the Job:
Under the general direction of the Radiation Safety Officer, the incumbent
will supervise Health Physicists and technicians. Responsible for the
x-ray machine program which includes authorizations, registration of machines
with the Department of Health Services, ALARA policies, shielding design
review and approval, inspection of selected machines and review of
occupational exposure for compliance with applicable regulations; radiation
safety overview of Nuclear Medicine Clinic, Radiation Oncology, and
Radiology Departments; and orientation and training of allied health care
professionals. With the Survey Health Physicist, coordinate assignment of
technicians for survey of x-ray machines, Nuclear Medicine Clinic and
Radiation Oncology. Responsible for overview of Operational Section of
the Radiation Safety Division. Perform special projects assigned by
Radiation Safety Officer and act as the Alternate Radiation Safety Officer.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Essential to perform the job:
Current health physics experience at a broadscope, Type A, licensee with
working knowledge of present radiation protection standards and
recommendations of the ICRP and the NCRP in areas of diagnostic and
therapeutic equipment and nuclear medicine. Ability to write clear, concise,
logical and grammatically correct technical reports, analysis, correspondence,
etc. The necessary interpersonal skills to make effective oral presentations
at seminars, committee meetings, and technical symposia. Demonstrated
supervisory experience. Bachelor's Degree in appropriate scientific or
engineering field; Master's Degree is preferred.
Pay Range: $3295 - $5883/month
