ABHP certification, misc. replies
I had presumed that the comment on withdrawing certification was 'tongue-in-
cheek'. Once granted, certication cannot be withdrawn without cause, and not
without going thru extensive internal processes. It certainly cannot be
withdrawn by a rules change without a by-law change by the AAHP membership.
Regarding non-U.S. applicants: The Board did consider a South African
applicant a number of years ago, but decided not to give the exam,
primarily as I recall due to practical difficulties. Other countries,
e.g., Canada, have discussed starting their own at one time or another, but
it is not a trivial task to put the process together.
But, if there is sufficient interest the idea should be raised with the
AAHP/ABHP again. Despite being labeled 'American' I am certain the Academy
is open to reasoned discussion on the topic. Ultimately it comes down to
practical issues like a sufficient number of candidates to justify the
effort.
