Re: S-35 Volatility

In regards to the notes on S-35 volatility, I ask the same question
we did when this first arose (mid-80's?):

Is this a problem?

ALI S-35 = 1 mCi

The typical vial of S-35 used is 1 mCi or less. Most individual
research labs use much less than 100 mCi/year. If one individual
opened all 100 mCi, 0.1% = 100 uCi = 10% ALI IFF they snorted the
entire volatile fraction. Is this really a reasonable scenario?

NOTE: It was still "strongly recommended" (e.g., I don't recall if we
allowed any exceptions) that ALL vials be initially opened in an
operating fume hood.
