I worked at a multisite nuclear power program that used a single, central
mainframe database for dose tracking, access control, electronic work permit
system, ALARA database, instrument and equipment issue and control, etc.
(yes it was/is a monster). Everyone entering the plant (not just HP staff)
had to log into the database. NRC and American Nuclear Insurers bought off
on the idea of the ID and password as an electronic signature for permanent
recordkeeping, resulting in a paperless work permit timesheet. Bear in mind
that the database system met the ANS/ANSI requirements for QA records.
