Someone has asked me if the americium parts in smoke detectors may be
recycled. In other words, is there a company out there who disassembles old
smoke detectors and re-uses the part that produces ionizing radiation (maybe
to make new smoke detectors)? I haven't heard of anyone doing that, but
would like to hear what you know.
