U & Th nitrates




One way, which I have considered to escape the mixed waste issue for Uranyl
nitrate is to ensure it is in solution (while it is still a reagent) as
Uranyl nitrate hexahydrate, whereby it is no longer an oxidizer by DOT
(which would make it D001 by definition in 40 CFR). It instead becomes a
corrosive, and in reasonable dilution it will probably not meet the
definition of D002 - therefore it is not a mixed waste and can be solidified
to meet disposal site criteria.
