Thought this bit of information might throw some light on your problem.
While it applies to a different field it may be just the tip of the
iceberg.
 In the New Scientist Journal April or May I can't remember which
an article appears stating that it has now been found that latex gloves
under some circumstances will let through micro organisms of a certain
size.
I wonder if this might be the same for chemicals.
