HP Certification - Study is Key
With the 1995 exam results trending lower than usual, the American Board of
Health Physics sent out a questionnaire requesting feedback from the
candidates who took the exam. Analyses of the results showed that there was
no apparent correlation between taking a prep. course and passing and also no
apparent correlation between educational level (beyond the bachelors degree)
with passing (in fact there was a slight negative correlation with a Ph.D.
and passing - implying that those with Ph.D.'s did not appear to do as well
as those without the Ph.D.).
The questionnaire showed that the only positive correlation with passing the
exam occured with the estimated time spent studying. Those who admitted,
retrospectively, to studying more than 300 hours appeared to be more likely
to pass the exam than those studying less than 300 hours. The next printing
of the ABHP Exam Prep Guide will include this information.
This finding gives credence to Charlie Willis' advice to study, study,
study....
