UCLA Radiation Safety has an opening for a Staff Health Physicist.  Here's the official info:

The ad will be posted in the UCLA Job Bulletin on June 25 and will close on July 8.  It will be posted on the web for 4 weeks.  We cannot offer the position to anyone until July 9, 1997.

JOB TITLE:  Associate Engineer (JOB #: 6643)
PAY RANGE:  $3,617-$5,425/month

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Assure that UCLA's Radiation Safety Program is carried out as authorized in UCLA's license in designated areas of the UCLA campus including Center for Health Sciences according to the Radiation Protection Manual, State and Federal regulations.  Responsible for appraising radioactive work areas for compliance and good safety practices in support of ALARA.  Review radioactive waste streams for compliance to license and regulatory requirements.  Review computer programs servicing the Radiation Safety Program assuring accurate performance of their mission.  Ability to train radiation workers in radiation safety methods and regulatory requirements.  Perform special assignments as directed by the Radiation Safety Officer or designee.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES ESSENTIAL TO PERFORM THE JOB:

Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific or engineering field and two years of professional experience in radiation protection program or related activities of laboratory sample counting, spectrometry, shielding, and effluent monitoring.  Working knowledge of waste management, radiation surveys, and X-ray machines.  Ability to recognize unsafe or off-standard conditions which may adversely affect the radiation safety of approximately 3,000 workers in UCLA's program.  Skill in writing concise and grammatically correct documents, good interpersonal skills and ability to give effective presentations.
