The Cornell Univ. Ward Center for Nuclear Sciences TRIGA reactor lab has an opening for a reactor equipment technician/reactor operator. The full description & requirements are listed below. Please post for graduating students, or other interested persons.

Title:
Reactor Equipment Technician
Job Ref.#: TD1602
Pay Band:
$25k - ~$30k/year (depending on qualifications)
Starting Date: 6/1/98 (neg.)

Responsibilities:
Maintain, troubleshoot and build electronic instrumentation for the Cornell nuclear research reactor laboratory. Become certified to operate the Cornell 500kW TRIGA nuclear reactor and the Cobalt-60 Gamma irradiation facility. Assist faculty, students, and contractors in utilizing these facilities and in performing neutron activation analysis and neutron radiography. Build research lab apparatus using electronic and light machine shop equipment. Use radiation detection equipment and perform routine radiation surveys. Position eligible for enrollment in the Employee Degree Program after one year of full time employment.

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in nuclear, mechanical, or electrical engineering, physics, or equivalent skills and experience. Working knowledge of digital and analog circuitry and computer interfacing required. Ability to work independently and complete various technical projects as assigned. Willingness and ability to learn reactor operation and radiation safety procedures and pass a U.S. N.R.C. administered Reactor Operator exam, after in-house training. Knowledge of research lab test equipment and shop tools highly desirable.
