Job Opening



The following position is open at the University of New Mexico.

Manager, Radiation Safety, Department of Safety, Health and Environmental
Affairs, Univeristy of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Manage radioactive materials safety at New Mexico's largest university and
multi-million dollar research facility located in the solar capital of the
Southwest.  Position develops and oversees growing radiation safety
program ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state regulations,
works with university departments, and research and treatment facilities
maintaining radioactive material permits.  Works collaboratively with
multiple divisions within the Safety, Health and Environmental Affairs
Department.  Excellent people management and interpersonal skills desired.
Substantial knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations needed.
Practical abilities with ionizing radiation sources and associated safety
instrumentation required.  Computer literacy important.  Requires
Bachelor's Degree in Technical, Scientific, or Engineering area with
relevant Board certification.  Master's Degree in Health Physics
desirable.  Must have had 200 hours of classroom and laboratory training
covering Radiation physics and instrumentation, Radiation protection
(health physics), Mathematics pertaining to the use and measurement of
radioactivity, Radiation biology, and Radiopharmaceutical chemistry.
Must have one year full-time experience in radiation safety at a medical
institution under the supervision of a individual identified as the RSO on
a Department, Agreement State, or NRC license, or be an authorized user
for those radioactive material uses that come within the RSO's
responsibilities.  Starting salary range is $41,000/yr to $50,000/yr
depending upon experience with full benefits including educational
benefits for employee and all family members.  For a complete description
