Sandy,

That "forget what you learned in school" line has been around the block a few
times, but have you ever heard it used?  Every organization has its "little ways,"
but every employer I have had since college damn well expected me to start out
knowing  the relevant science and a lot of other things.  Even in the military, where
they told us when to put each foot down when we walked, they made heavy use of
our previous education in other activities.
