The attached was sent by one of my colleagues in response to the request
about marine accidents. Hope it is useful.

My database has two references in it that are pertinent.
-Sheldon, R.B.,"EA of the Sinking of the Nuclear-Powered Submarines Thresher
and Scorpion," 1995, Waste Management'95
-FEIS on the Disposal of Decommissioned, Defueled Submarine Reactor Plants,
1984, Dept of the Navy (DOE as cooperating agency). This includes early
data on samples from the Thresher/Scorpion debris sites.
I am copying both of them for you.

Ruth, our FRR and SeaRAM studies didn't examine any real maritime accidents
that have happened to ships transporting RAM. I don't know if there have
actually been any such accidents. I would ask Sieglinde and will send this
reply to her. There certainly have been accidents to nuclear subs and loss
into the sea of defense radioactive components (bombs) but I don't know if
any of these accidents led to radioactive releases that were monitored. So
there may be scant data on both accidents and radioactive releases. Jeremy

Jerry,
Could you give this guy some references, please?

Radsafers,
My present project requires research of ship accidents involving radioactive
materials. Accustomed to shipments by truck or train, I am having
difficulty in
finding such references. Can anyone help?
Many thanks,
