JOB DESCRIPTION FOR:
RADIOLOGICAL ENGINEER                      

Reports to: Engineering Manager

This position is responsible for the preparation of detailed work
procedures
for the radiological decontamination of specific site areas.  Completed
work
is evaluated for technical soundness, appropriateness and conformity to
regulations and standards.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Included but are limited to)

C Prepares detailed work procedures using government and customer
regulations
and standards to complete specific radiological decontamination of
assigned
areas.

C Prepares project estimates for individual assignments.

C Orders materials and equipment required to complete assigned projects.

C Maintains documentation and prepares reports on specific projects.

C Monitors workers in the field for job proficiency and safety.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS (Included but not limited to)

C Prepares and submits various test runs and technical reviews for
techniques
and equipment tests.  Maintains knowledge of technical requirements and
procedures.

C Audits and reviews evaluation of radioactive materials handling and
storage,
high radiation area control and other radiological programs.

C Conducts internal surveillance for compliance with safety procedures and
regulations.

C Conducts safety meetings covering new safety and radiological regulation
and
procedures.

C Must obtain and maintain requirements necessary for Department of Energy
AL@
or AQ@ security clearance.

C Knowledge of: federal regulations regarding radiation controls,
construction
trade principles and practices, safety principle and practices, and
certification procedures.

C Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and
ability to
access ladders and scaffolding.

C Must qualify as radiation worker.  May be required to qualify as
Radiological Engineering Procedure Writer.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

C Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Environmental)
Required

C 3 to 5 years of field work in the area of radiological materials
decontamination preferred

C Navy Nuclear Power Program experience is a plus.
