your sources expiry dates



     Ben,
     
     Should we infer that your inquiry to RadSafe means that the sources' 
     vendor(s?) is/are defunct?. If so, and if the sources were placed into 
     use bearing the expiry dates without exception or provision, it seems 
     imprudent to continue using them. If not, the only valid A's to your 
     Q's, perhaps even a waiver, must be from the vendor.

     At the Harris Nuclear Plant we have approximately a dozen calibration 
     sources (electroplated, mylar-covered, button, and solid matrix) that 
     have expiration dates on them. What exactly does the expiration date 
     mean? (There is some indication that it refers to the integrity of the 
     source encapsulation.)
