CAL RAD FORUM'S ANNUAL FALL CONFERENCE, November 18-19, 1999

Cal Rad Forum's Annual Fall Conference will take place Thursday and Friday, 
November 18-19, 1999 at the Hyatt Islandia Hotel in San Diego. 

The formal program of speakers and panels is scheduled for Friday. On 
Thursday afternoon, there will be a tour of the fusion energy research 
facility at the General Atomics Company in La Jolla.

Friday's program includes presentations on applications of radioactive 
materials; activities of the National Academy of Sciences' Committee on the 
Biological Effects of Ionizing Radiation (BEIR VII); management and treatment 
of low-level radioactive wastes and mixed wastes; current legal and political 
issues affecting the development of new disposal facilities for low-level 
waste, including the proposed Ward Valley facility; and problems affecting 
the ability of organizations that use radioactive materials in the 
Southwestern Compact region to continue to export low-level waste to other 
states for disposal in the near term.

A partial list of speakers and panelists includes Congressman Brian Bilbray 
of San Diego (if Congress has recessed); Dr. Myron Pollycove, Emeritus at 
UCSF and Medical Fellow at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission; Dr. 
Kenneth Mossman of Arizona State University; Dr. Philip Williams of the 
Tritium Labelling Facility at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; Don 
Womeldorf, Executive Director of the Southwestern Compact Commission; 
Katherine Haynes, Executive Director of the Southeast Compact Commission; Dr. 
Martin Nusynowitz, University of Texas Medical Branch and Chairman of 
Organizations United; Reed Wilcox of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 
Pasadena; and Dwayne Weigel of the U.S. General Accounting Office.
