Wart Removal

A co-worker told us of a childhood story in which he had a wart removed from his hand via some type of radiation process.  This would have been approximately 30 to 40 years ago.  Is anyone familiar with this type of process, and what type of source, techniques were used?  He now has skin cancer on that arm and hand.  I would expect that this type process is not used anymore?
