RE: Basis for Reg. Guide 1.86 limits?



For what ist worth:

My recollection, although I had nothing to do with the decisions or the
calculations, was that contamination limits were based upon the calculated
minimum detectable contamination detectable using the instruments available
at the time, and using very conservative assumptions.

In other words, if we say there is no contamination fixed or loose, how much
could actually be present.  There was a collection efficiency use for a
smear.  Studies at that time at Oak Ridge had indicted that the smear was
very inefficient.
