Should dose monitoring be like VIN's & odometer readings for cars?
I don't know if this has ever been asked on this list before
- but I'll ask it anyway.
SCENARIOS:
So you have a resident in your radiology department. You
badge 'em - then you hear they rotate elsewhere. They're not
supposed to bring your institution's monitor to that other
place. So how do you know what are the correct cumulative
readings? What of attendings who moonlight and do not want
to volunteer their other activities? What of rad techs who
have multiple places of employment?
QUESTIONS:
How many different dose monitors do they wear and do all
those readings add up somewhere for that persons cummulative
occupational reading? Should there be a centralised
(government?) database to which companies upload their
respective data? Should there be a web interface to such
data so that those monitored can view their readings more
conveniently themselves? Should we have dose monitor
readings tracked like odometer readings related to VIN's?
A DARE:
I can come up with the web interface and programs if people
agree to centralise the data. Maybe I'll start a company and
lobby the NRC. It makes too much sense to me.
Andrew :)
