RE: Rad Sources for Workshops

It may be illegal for a licensed entity to remove those sources, but

I have never seen anything, as a consumer, that tells me it is illegal.

Plus I have never seen anything , except maybe in small print (magnifying

glass size letters) that tells me, the consumer, that I need to do anything

except put the detector in the trash. So from a consumer standpoint, it

matters not whether I throw the source in the trash while it is in the

detector or after I have removed the source from the detector. Personally I

don't believe ANY member of the general population has eve heard of

HPPOS-150.

Just an attempt at being real in a strange world.

I don't believe it's legal to take the source out of a smoke detector -

part of the general license requirements.

1. An intact smoke detector can, with some exceptions, be disposed of in

household trash. (See HPPOS-150, "Disposal Requirements for Specific and

Exempt Licensed Smoke Detectors.")

2. A smoke detector source that has been removed from a smoke detector is

potential TRU waste.
