Re: dirty bomb
Dear John
I have some understanding about suicide bomber, living in Natania, Israel. I
have some experience gained as RA general coordinator in Goiania, and this
give me a different approach about terrorism and I think that we should be
worried about what do terrorists think? What do terrorists feel? And what
will terrorist do?
About dirty bomb I have the same thought of Abel Gonzales, IAEA director of
radiation and waste safety:
"A large source could be removed quite easily, especially if those
involved have no regard for their own health, "The effects of a dirty bomb
would not be devastating in terms of human life but contamination in even
small quantities could have major psychological and economic effects." A
Cs-137 source like in Goiania will be very complicated to decontaminate. I
don't want going deeply in scenarios or situations, but remember, the
Accident in Goiania was in the Center of the City, and what I have learned
there, by fact and experience, I did never see written before in any book
and gave me a lot of concern on these specific topics: psychological and
decontamination.

I think the suggested use of radioactive material is much more effective as
a terrorist weapon. Look at all the traffic in the news and this list alone
that has discussed the issue. We are spending massive amounts of money on
radiation detection equipment. Yet there has not been any proof that
radioactive material has ever been diverted by terrorists. Resources
should be spent on intelligence gathering to determine what they are doing,
not what we think they are going to do.
Get a grip on it.

How about terrorists dispersing a poison gas into the ventilation
system of large buildings, or into a basketball arena. They could kill a
lot more people that way, and a lot faster.
