Re: Recommendation for new format
I concur regarding bulletin boards. I'm not thrilled
with most bulletin boards. It seems to me that
bulletin boards are often either "inactive" with a few
very occasional, but ethical, posters who are
interested in solid on-topic discussions, or, on the
other hand, they are "busy," but with a high
proportion of "flame bait" types of posts that add
very little of substance to a discussion.
Also, a bulletin board format isn't quite as conducive
to off-board discussions which are often useful here
(for example, help with technical questions).
I think that most people have e-mail filters so that
they can send RadSafe to a separate mailbox from their
personal and business mail so that they can prioritize
their e-mail load.
I also concur with Franz Schoenhofer. This brings up
something that I saw happen recently on an unrelated
BBS. A relatively popular hobby bulletin board system
got "hijacked." The founder, a small publisher of a
hobby magazine/bookstore who had been in business
about 12 years (e.g. before the internet), hired an
individual to help him with the internet side of his
business. The individual who was hired waited about a
year, learned the ropes, and then ran off with the BBS
and the internet storefront/book catalog while leaving
the founder in the lurch with just the magazine. The
founder had created the company and the concept but
the hired partner wasn't satisfied with working _with_
the founder...he wanted all the glory for himself.
The idea of altering the format of RadSafe
without the leadership of our wise and generous
moderator, would be highly unpopular with me. Thanks
for your patience, Dr. Stabin!
