I would like to add my two cents/sense:)? to this thread. You estimate the amount of internal radioactivity by external (in vivo) photon measurement or measurements of radioactivity in excreta.

I have found that a whole body in vivo count is a "useful discussion starter" for people who want to know more about radiation and radiation risks. The prominent "naturally occurring" K-40 peak is the only isotope that is identifiable, and when they hear that it would be VERY costly to get it out of the food they are usually ask for more information.

My point is if you make external measurements, and then someone says that the risk is due to internal exposure, don't you think that the public will doubt your knowledge and understanding of the risk? Do you think that this will instill confidence in your message?

The good of measuring external exposure is reassurance of these persons with fear of that non-existent danger and mitigation of their obstruction to uses of radioactivity.

Since the risk from plutonium is from inhalation and ingestion, what good is the meter that measures external exposure rates?
