Re: [Fwd: CURE for Rad Fear]

Citizens, Utilize Radioactive Environment!, is a word play on CARE,

Citizens Against a Radioactive Environment, the local anti-nuc activists

with a newsletter blockading LLNL in every way it can.

Some of the public at the 1/15 CA State presentation, who were

frightened by CARE, expressed fear that the plutonium containing sludge

may have been used as fertilizer by previous owners of their homes and

that their children might get cancer from playing in the garden (perhaps

eating the dirt). Only melanoma has an increase locally. It has been

thoroughly studied (I can fax that study to anyone interested) and only

UV was related (vs case controls).

R. Condit gave out a memo and USA uranium-in-soil map. He pointed out

that "In Livermore,- 2 ppm eU is roughly 5 picocuries per gram of soil"

and "In the body of a 150 pound person, the radioactivity amounts to

220,000 pCi, which is half a million atomic disintegrations per minute.

This is all natural radioactivity."

A response on this list writes that Los Almos reported Pu ingestion -

but no indication of harm. Does anyone have data (not just LNT theory)

that anyone has ever been harmed by Pu ingestion?

Measure of low radiation in the garden should be reassuring to radphobia

victims - as should this dialogue suggesting benefit from more

radiation, at least up to 10 rem/year.
