Re: Hiding the truth...
I just thought I'd remind everyone that it would be impossible to hide the
truth. There are too many privately owned radiation detectors out there to
quash all of the data that will quickly show up on the Internet. Hopefully,
most of the people with these detectors will understand background and will
understand, for example, how much more exposure you get during a plane
flight and how the future incident fits into that type of continuum.
As we move forward in any endeavor, there will be few
"priests/shamen/gurus" who will keep all the truths to themselves. Yes,
there will be experts, but many others will also understand the basics.
Some of us think we need to in order to make the correct decisions in these
unsettled times. With knowledge this widespread, the truth cannot be kept
private. Of course, there could be people out there like Cassandra, doomed
to be ignored <sigh>.
According to figures published at
http://www.civildefensemuseum.com/cdmuseum2/supply/radkits.html 452,558
CD-V-700 radiation monitors were manufactured during the cold war. I have
two working ones. Even if 10% survive in private hands and are working,
that's 45,000 instruments out there that only require a few D-cells to work.
Aware Electronics http://www.aw-el.com/ sells small, contemporary
detectors. I have the RM-70 which nicely connects to my HP-100LX palmtop
(I'm glad I found a use for that wonderful little machine now that I'm
using a Palm Vx for it's original purpose). Anyone want to see my plot of
the radiation encountered from Los Angeles to Chicago one day? It's quite
fun. I'll email a graphic file to anyone who wants to see it.
Then there's Kai's Gamma Watch, and the Gamma Scout. I'm sure there are
more. All this $500 or less per detector.
One of the reasons that I find a detector so comforting is I don't have to
believe what I'm being told (either way) nor do I have to worry if I'm
getting more radiation than the reference measuring station (or less, too).
So let's educate the public, not frighten them, and then tell them the truth.
Cheers,
Richard
