Re: Response to not telling the public about a dirty bomb

Jim,

Part of our responsibility to the public is that we not scare the hell out

of them by telling them about a "hazard" that doesn't exist. In the case of

the dirty bomb, as I understand the concept, the radiation is not the

hazard. People who don't get killed or injured by the bomb itself certainly

are not going to be killed or injured by the minor amount of radiation

spread by the bomb. Its one thing to rope off the small area where the

radioactive material contamination is, its another thing entirely to run up

and down the street screaming, "Run for your lives, it was a radiation

bomb." If we're going to tell the public anything, it should be something

like, "If a dirty bomb goes off in your neighborhood, make sure those

injured get rescued and treated, then go take a shower."

must be a state inspector or something. Have you ever heard of trust? We,as

safety personnel, have a responsibility not only to the employees we work

with, but also the public and the environment. You are a disgrace to the

profession. So you know who I am, my name is Jim Dykes, I am not a CHP but

have 24 years in radiation safety and if that's the thinking of a CHP I'd

rather not be one.
