Indian Point Evacuation Plan Status

What is the current status of the Indian Point evacuation plan?

The operator's Web site http://www.safesecurevital.org/

states that an approved plan is in place.

A friend who lives in the area says "Don't believe Indian Point's

propaganda. Follow the FEMA and NRC hearings on it. FEMA has told

Westchester and NY state that they will be forced to tell the NRC to shut

it down if they don't have a certified evac plan. Westchester and NY are

refusing the certify the folly that passed for plans in the past. "

This friend is actually in favor of nukes modeled on the French

administrative model--multiple identical smaller, simpler plants. He, like

many of my friends, especially doesn't trust the new power generating

companies who operate the existing nuclear plants. I wonder if Davis-Besse

had any influence on his thinking? I think I'll ask him.

Anyway, I'd like to know if any of you know where the truth lies. If what

my friend says is true, then the Indian Point Web site is not true, which

is another instance of why there is so little trust in the nuclear

profession in this country! And some of you wonder why I think owning your

own radiation monitor is comforting. Heck, you never know who to believe!

Thanks!

Richard
