Re: 15 or 25 mrem per year?
It shouldn't, but it does still amaze me how many people take it upon themselves
to define, "public interest." For better or worse, public interest is defined
by the political process. Scientists can identify and quantify risks, but the
political process determines which risks to accept and which to regulate.
Although you can disagree with the outcome, it's what the public wants. Although
I, too, often disagree with the outcome, I wouldn't want to change the process,
and am very skeptical of those who want to impose their views of the "public
interest" on everyone else.
