Re: Shipping Regulations Effective Today
I would be cautious about piecemeal implementation of the new regulations. For
example, the dropping of the "excepted package notice" in the new regulations
is compensated for by the new requirement to mark the outside of the package
with the 4 digit UN number. If you do neither, you're in violation of the
regulations.
BTW, I like the requirement for marking the outside of a Class 7, excepted
package. We've had a perennial problem with unmarked packages of radioactive
material getting through our receipt process without the required surveys, and
being opened by unqualified persons. (There is no regulatory limit on internal
contamination for a limited quantity package.) This should ameliorate that
concern.
The opinions expressed are strictly mine.
It's not about dose, it's about trust.
Curies forever.
