RE: Termination of EML's Performance Evaluation Program

Doug-That is unfortunate news. Current EML participants should consider

approaching EPA's National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation

Conference (NELAC) to pursue recognition and ultimately inclusion of

some or all of EML's discontinued PE functions under the National

Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program's (NELAP) proficiency

testing (PT) framework. I was a member of the committee developing the

original (1999) chapter 5 radiochemistry Quality System standards (the

standards have since been revised annually up through 2002).

NELAC/NELAP has attained national recognition and most environmental

testing labs have achieved accredited status under NELAP for their

service areas. See http://www.epa.gov/ttn/nelac/.
