RE: Recall Lists for Instrumentation; Applicable standards
ANSI N323A-1997 Radiation Protection Instrumentation Test and Calibration,
Portable Survey Instruments
section 4.9
"Calibration shall be required at least annually, even when the source
response check requirements outlined in 4.8 are met."
I hope this helps.

Subject: Recall Lists for Instrumentation; Applicable standards
Dear all;
We are in the process of rethinking our policies on instrumentation recall
for calibration. I have a specific question regarding this.
I know that there are such requirements for physical calibration of things
like pressure sensors, torque wrenches, etc. I know that there are such
requirements for physical calibration of things like pressure sensors,
torque wrenches, etc. I am interested in the existance of any standards
that require the same type of systems for radiation instrumentation.
I recognize that there are advantages to such a system in practice.
However, my interest involves the existence of any STANDARDS that describe
such a system, the intent of such a system, and what level of accuracy and
compliance should be expected.
So;
1) Are there any ANSI or ISO standards DIRECTLY applicable to radiation
instrumentation that REQUIRE one to maintain an instrument inventory and to
periodically generate a recall list?
2) Are there any ANSI or ISO standards that are INDIRECTLY applicable to
radiation instrumentation that require such databases and lists?
Thanks,
Jim Barnes, CHP
