"Just a couple of mm of lead"

Friends:

Bob Dixon has published an excellent paper spelling out in detail what small

increases in ALARA can cost, even when it's "just a couple of millimenters

of lead."

The paper is at:

http://www.rad.wfubmc.edu/Modern%20Radiation%20Protection%20Standards.pdf

Be sure to get the whole, long URL.

The paper doesn't touch on the whole LNT-to-zero fallacy, but it is an

excellent example of one application. I wish someone would take on some

examples of the whole nuclear power plant in this vein.

This is the difference between the think-tank and the real world.
