                  Wednesday, February 18, 1998

The NSCL is currently undergoing a project to couple its two
superconducting cyclotrons, the K1200 and the K500. When the coupling is
complete, the unit will be able to accelerate particles with energies much
greater then the K1200 could reach. One of the researcher working on the
coupled cyclotron project is Reginald Ronningen, Senior Physicist and
Senior Liaison Physicist in the NSCL User Services. Dr. Ronningen has a
Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University (1975) and has worked at the cyclotron
since 1978. He has been NSCL RSO since 1983 and serves as chair of the
NSCL safety committee as well a member of the MSU Radiation Safety
Committee. He is a member of the American Physical Society and the Health
Physics Society. Dr. Ronningen will conduct a tour of the cyclotron,
followed by a presentation on the coupled cyclotron project.
