Betreff: Re: AAP Statement on Radiation Disasters and Children
I have a question about KI use for terrorist inicidents. I was at at
"Emergency Response Meeting" & someone stated that tincture of Iodine (3
drops) in a
glass of water or Betadine applied to the skin could be a good substitute
for the KI tablets. I have never heard of this as a way to block the
thyorid & would like to know if anyone else has experience or information
on this issue.
------------------------------
Alex,
The only criterium of protection of I-131 is the potential dose to the
population. If the potential dose would be exceeded, certain security
measurements like the potential uptake of KI tablets would be announced. (At
least this is my state of information on the US emergency measures.) I have
no idea, how many mg of stable Iodine rerpresents 3 drops of a certain
brand. I warn everybody to adhere to such messages, which - to my
perception - represent commercial companies.
Best regards,
Franz
