RE: question on Boral shielding

Title: question on Boral shielding

I have the original patent on Boral (listed in Nucleonics in “a selection of [27] landmark US atomic energy patents from all the patents issued to date.”).  It's primarily a manufacturing technique that makes it special.  The patent is in the late 1940s and I haven't had much to do with it for many years.  But if you can't get questions answered elsewhere, I'd be glad to take a crack at it.

Subject: question on Boral shielding

Would anyone in Radsafe have some details on the shielding material Boral, that they could please send me ?
From my Handbook of Composite Materials, I have been able to find that its almost certainly a metal matrix composite, with aluminum as the matrix material, with some form of boron (particles or fibers) embedded in it. According to the brief description, its supposedly a desirable type of shielding due to its high strength and low thermal expansion coefficient. But it doesn't even mention the name Boral -- presumably a commercial trade mark ?

Thanks very much, in advance.
